ABOUT CENTRAL BBQ

Central Texas Style BBQ has been part of Pearland for more than fifty years; one of the city’s oldest continuously operating restaurants and a landmark for anyone who loves authentic Texas barbecue. The story began in 1969 when Diana LeClere, newly arrived from Cuba, stepped into the kitchen of what would become her life’s work. She brought with her a fierce work ethic, a love for cooking, and a willingness to outwork anyone in the room. Those values shaped everything that happened next.

Diana’s Journey From Cuba to Pearland

The story starts with Diana LeClere, who arrived from Cuba with a strong work ethic, a love for cooking, and a determination to succeed. When she stepped into the kitchen in 1969, she began building what would become her life’s work and a beloved Pearland institution.

Central Texas Style BBQ has been part of Pearland since 1969, becoming one of the city’s oldest continuously operating restaurants. What began as a small barbecue spot evolved into a landmark known for its authentic Texas BBQ and warm, family-centered hospitality.

A Signature Blend of Texas and Cuban Flavors

Diana honored traditional Texas barbecue hickory smoked brisket, sausage, ribs, chicken, and turkey while slowly introducing the Cuban flavors she grew up with. Dishes like congri, Spanish rice, and mojo influenced sauces created a unique fusion that set the restaurant apart.

A Pearland Tradition for Over 50 Years

From the walls filled with family memories to the pits smoking day and night, the restaurant remains a tribute to Diana’s values: excellent food and exceptional hospitality. More than five decades later, Central Texas Style BBQ continues to welcome guests like family and serve the community with pride.

Central Texas Style BBQ has been honored as an official Texas Treasure Historic Business for its long-standing impact on the community. Media features from ABC13 and recognition from local Pearland organizations highlight its cultural roots and status as one of the city’s most beloved establishments.

Four Generations Carrying the Legacy

Over the decades, the LeClere family grew up inside the restaurant. Diana’s daughter, Ruth, eventually took leadership, and today Ruth and her son Devon Nixon continue to run the business with the same consistency, humility, and hospitality. Four generations now help keep Diana’s legacy alive.
